Fast food ,junk food , food court ,the much hyped pizza,KFCs ,McDONALDs - the list is endless and honestly I am not even aware of most of these . Children sometimes use the term 'downmarket' if you are not in sync with the latest trends or will probably think that you belong to the era of Dinosaurs . I have to confess though that these dishes are all taste bud friendly and has made our lives easy. To prepare an evening snack or a scrumptious meal is in no way a herculean task for the mothers anymore. How many tmes do we try to refrain ourselves from ordering a pizza or some chinese delicacy? And how many times do we fail to stop our children from doing so? Kneading flour, then frying pooris, chopping vegetables to make a sabzi to accompany it ,so time taking and cumbersome if compared with the food that is just a phone call away,is not it?
Till a few years ago even I did not complain a bit if I had to prepare a range of starters and a full course meal in a short notice. That used to be a happy affair instead as the prospect of earning compliments for the effort would automatically lessen all the pain associated with the process.
The scenario has drastically changed over these last few years. The sprouting of umpteen number of fast food joints and the promptness of the home delivery service provided by the same has made life easy.
But at what cost? What about our health? What about the various diseases like juvenile diabetes and obesity which is plaguing the younger generation of our country? How many kids are physically fit nowadays? And the most important of all, are we really worried? As parents ,are we not supposed to lead by an example?
Every magazine ,every daily has one or two article on health isues. Some are good whereas some too preachy but who is following them ! It would be wrong of me to generalize this approach but the opinions are always formed based on the behaviour of the majority.
Our mothers and grandmothers also did multitasking, raising more than one child(in most of the cases),sometimes in a joint family sometimes alone, but without any complaints. Some of them did not even have access to luxury such as gas ovens. There were no refrigeraters which meant cooking each meal separately and spending long hours in the kitchen.they did it and with a smile.
We are blessed to have gadgets like fridge, microwave,OTGs etc to make our life hassle free but has it actually made it so?
To face the challenges of life one needs vigour and a fit body along with an alert mind.this is not possible without changing our lifestyle and eating habits. I would like to confess that I make a resolution every morning and break it soon after the breakfast.but it has to change. I have to make sure that my son is eating the right kind of food including vegetables before its too late. The patience and energy level that my mother and grandmother were endowed with is definitely in my genes . This is not just my problem but of many I am sure. The dilemma is whether to live life the easy way where the comfort is just a phone call away or go back to the kitchen and work hard for the betterment of future!!!!!!!
